HS2000 in .357SIG

Got to shoot 50 rounds through the HS2000 in .357SIG today. The HS2000 was developed by Croatian IM Metal for the Croatian army during the late 1990's, in 2001 Springfield Armoury became the sole USA distributor of the handgun.

I own a Glock 34 in 9mm so I wanted to make a comparison, and I'd never shot a .357SIG before.

Overall the HS2000 was a nice gun to shoot, I was able to achieve good accuracy with minimal effort.

I didn't find the grip safety to my liking, or the small mag release. Those are my only two major gripes however. Otherwise, the ergonomics are very good, the gun is well balanced when loaded. The build quality seems good, but the Glock seems just a bit better engineered, and tighter in terms of tolerances, and I feel a Glock would outlive an HS2000. There is nothing wrong with the HS2000 accuracy however.

In the HS2000's favour, it's main feature I liked was the trigger, which contributed greatly to the accuracy I could achieve, unlike the trigger on the Glock, you don't have to haul on it and pull the barrel off target, the HS2000 trigger is very predictable and quite sharp with a good breaking point that you don't have to guess at. The Glock doesn't have a grip safety like the HS2000, which in my opinion is a good thing, but the trigger is the trade-off. Felt recoil from the .357SIG was very light, I was only firing 125gr loads or so however, but it was very forgiving, not like firing a small .40 or .45. When you consider the .357SIG is achieving higher muzzle velocities than most other calibres, this is a nice thought. I was able to put a rapid 5 group shot in, 3 landed grouped perfectly together in the bull at 11yards which was a nice touch. The stainless steel mag with the gun is really nice in terms of the fact it functions just fine and drops free. New Glock plastic mags don't tend to drop free when empty, without some encouragement.

Here, the cost of the HS2000 and Glock are the same, I'm not sure about other parts of the world. I would still choose the Glock, but I'm not quick to discount the HS2000 as a nice handgun as I may have done previously. It is a Glock clone in many respects, but a good one overall.

One of my favorite is the Glock 35 with an aftermarket barrel in .357 Sig, such as Lone Wolf, KKM, or Jarvis...nice balance.

For better trigger control with Glocks, try laying your weak-hand index finger along side the frame, pointing downrange. This will help compensate for sideways trigger pull.

I actually find the Glock trigger-reset is pretty useful, once I've squeezed off the first shot, I let it go back slowly and click, then it's ready for a light trigger pull for the next shot. Quite clever actually, but it's something more suited to target shooting, or slower longer range accuracy shooting than a real life scenario. I can't see it being done rapidly on a reliable basis, I guess some people have that skill, I don't yet.

Double-tapping or rapid fire is easier with polished 3.5 connector, a longer slide, and lighter recoiling round such as 9mm...although guys do it in competition with .40 all the time.

Check out a fellow by the name of Dave Sevigny...He is a consistent match winner...I think he has a website with videos of his prowess...http://www.sevignyperformance.com/

Something to aspire to...

Amen! I love my G35. I keep the original .40 S&W barrel in the Maxpedition bag that gun lives in just because that ammo is so widely available. But the Jarvis .357 SIG barrel I have in it gets almost all my shooting time with that gun. Very flat shooting, accurate, and hits hard. One of the best things about the competition Glocks is that there is so much aftermarket gear for them. Trigger, sights, grip tape, extended mags, etc, etc, etc.

I love my G17 but I would have to say my G35 in .357 SIG is my favorite Glock. I keep thinking about putting a small red dot on it and using it in the deer stand. I bet it would work great.
